PROJECT BACKGROUND
Architectural glass commission for THE JOHN PEEL CENTRE FOR CREATIVE ARTS funded by ITV’s People’s Millions. The stained glass artwork celebrates the audience by presenting an abstracted montage of SEATING PLANS.
Built in 1835, the originally named Corn Exchange in Stowmarket aims to provide a high quality arts venue in the heart of Suffolk. Tom Pearman was commissioned to design and fabricate a series of glass panels for the original front windows of the centre.
Tom delivered creative workshops with Combs Middle School, Stowmarket Middle School and members of the local community as part of Suffolk Open Weekend in July 2011.
He explored the idea of abstract patterns found in theatrical seating plan designs, and asked that workshop participants personalised their own patterns by allocating specific seats for themselves and their ideal guest. These guests ranged from family members to TV personalities.
