The majority of schemes that Pearman delivers involve a community out-reach strategy drawing upon extensive experience working with a rich variety of user groups. Previously he has conducted radio interviews with the BBC, delivered exhibitions and conducted participatory educational public workshops as part of arts festivals and developed dynamic project-specific websites that have presented the community consultation undertaken and outlined a project’s key development stages and aims.
One particular project website was designed by Tom as a vehicle to showcase the development of the Barry Town centre vitreous enamel commission.
Tom undertook a series of workshops with local schools and youth groups. Using Barry as a backdrop the youngsters enveloped themselves in the creation of a series of stop frame scenes, using a narrative of ‘Monsters Invading Barry!’. The aims of the sessions were to see how we may react to our local environment when a completely foreign element is introduced, in this case monsters! Does our local area become a cinematic backdrop for our own imagination? Can you spot Sinbad’s iconic monster in the enamel panels?
