Project Title Public Art Commission: Community Hall, Stotfold, Central Bedfordshire
Client Central Bedfordshire Council
Location Stotfold
Medium vitreous enamel and glazing application
Date 2017
Size 60 metres in length / 3 meters in height

Central Bedfordshire Council commissioned Pearman to undertake a public art commission for a new council community hall and council offices in Stotfold, Bedfordshire. Pearman designed and managed a vitreous enamel cladding and glazing vinyl system spanning 3 elevations. The artwork is a continuous design that overlaps 60 meters of the exterior walled area and the glazing.

Using Typewriter art as an inspiration to include text into the artworks, it enabled a variety of narratives to be introduced as part of a collaborative programme involving six local community groups, schools and members of the public. The graphic imagery of steam and clouds relates to Stotfold’s agricultural heritage, and at the same time presents a transient depiction of local memories and stories once told.

Pearman has also introduced an Anaglyph or Stereoscopic 3D effect. When the viewer wears red and cyan ‘colour coded’ glasses, areas of the clouds on the windows and exterior cladding offer a lo tech 3D effect.
