PROJECT BACKGROUND
Salford City Council in partnership with Salford University commissioned Tom Pearman to work on a street signage public art scheme for the walking route, ‘TRINITY LINK’, which begins in Salford and finishes in Manchester City Centre.
The aim is to create a safe pedestrian route for residents, as well as encouraging improved health and access to the area. Pearman’s project was concerned with the signage and visibility of the route. Involving local people was crucial to the project’s success and Tom worked with the community to create a series of 12 permanent signs using the traditional signage material of vitreous enamel.
Alongside Tom there were five bursary commissions for newly graduated artists from the Salford’s University’s Visual Arts and Culture degree course. For this, Tom acted as mentor to the students.
